Counselling Service
We offer free and confidential counselling services to young people 25 and under in the Tees Valley Area. All sessions take place at our offices in Redcar and transport could be provided in some circumstances. The counselling sessions usually last for an hour and in your first session you and your counsellor will talk about how many sessions you’ll have. Some people come to counselling for a few months, others find they only need a couple of sessions. If you are interest and think that counselling could help you please ring or call in and make an appointment to see a worker.

FAQ
What is Counselling?
Counselling is talking to a trained person about something which is on your mind or is a problem to you. While it can be useful to talk to other people in your life about how you feel, it can sometimes feel easier to talk to an independent person.
A counsellor will really listen to what you want to say without being shocked and without judging you – they will try and understand and help you to help yourself.
How can it help me?
You might feel better just to tell someone what’s been bothering you and know that they’ve listened to and understood you. You might want to change a decision – a counsellor can work through this with you without telling you what to do.
What do people talk about?
Lots of different things- if it is important to you or making you unhappy, then it is a good reason to come to counselling. For instance, you may have problems at home or with your friends; you may be feeling depressed or confused, or thinking about suicide or hurting yourself; maybe you are having problems with food, drugs or alcohol. It is a long list....................
Who are the counsellors?
The counsellors at The Junction are qualified in counselling, and have many years experience in working with young people.
What will counselling feel like?
You might feel nervous about going to your first appointment. You will find it hard to talk about how you are really feeling, or it might be the first time you’ve talked about your problems with another person. The counsellor will understand this and will try to help you feel comfortable about talking.
Will anyone know what I’ve talked about in counselling?
Counselling is confidential – that means that the counsellor will not tell anyone else what you talk about with them. The only time this changes is when you give permission to tell someone else, or if the counsellor is worried about your safety or the safety of someone else who is mentioned in the session (for example a family member or friend).
Other people say I should see a counsellor – should I?
Sometimes people close to you might suggest you try counselling because they are worried about you or about something you do. Because counselling is voluntary, only you can decide if it is the right thing for you. That is why we prefer it if you contact us yourself, rather than someone else doing it on your behalf.
I’m still not sure......
If you are still unsure whether counselling is right for you feel free to speak to a worker at The Junction about counselling and whether it is right for you.
